E320 Overview

The Vitamix E320's powerful 2.2HP motor pulverizes virtually any ingredient, allowing you to make a wide variety of blended recipes. The 10 variable speed dial along with the pulse switch provides fine-tuned control over blends, and like the Vitamix 5300, this blender also features a low-profile, 64oz container for easy storage and scraping.

E310 Overview

Part of the same Vitamix Explorian series as the E320, the E310 delivers blending power that's similar to the E320's, but with a more compact, 48oz container suitable for medium-sized batches and smaller families. The 2HP motor is slightly less powerful, but is powerful enough to handle just about any food item.

Construction Comparison: E320 Vs. E310

The Lids

Vitamix E310

The Vitamix E310's lid and removable plug has a 2oz measurement line for precision. Its vented construction allows you to bring blended recipes to piping-hot temperature in the container, or add ingredients while mixing.

Vitamix E320

The Vitamix E320's lid has all of the great features that the E310's lid has, but its plug sits within the lid, rather than above, making up for its slightly larger container size.

The Blades

Vitamix E310

The Vitamix E310 features laser-cut, stainless-steel hammermill and cutting blades measuring 3" diameter to ensure a consistent blend every time.

Vitamix E320

The Vitamix E320 features laser-cut, stainless-steel hammermill cutting blades measuring 4" diameter, which is an extra inch than the E310. This means that the E320 does better at grabbing ingredients and maintaining an even blend throughout all stages of the blending process than the E310's blades. These blades are great for chopping foods with the pulse feature or blending frozen fruits for thick smoothies.

The Base

As the E320 and E310 are both part of the Explorian Series, and both have the same control features, these blenders' bases are identical. They both feature a clean control display with a start/stop switch, a variable speed control dial, and a pulse switch. The start/stop switch allows you to start or stop your blends at any time, the dial allows you to move between 10 different speeds throughout the blending process, and the pulse switch blends at the speed set on the dial for as long as you hold the button. Four rubber feet on the bottom of the base prevent slippage in storage and while blending. The E320 comes in red and black, while the E310 comes in red, black, and slate.

Performance Comparison: E320 Vs. E310

The Motor

Vitamix E310

The Vitamix E310 features a 2HP motor, which is slightly less powerful than the E320's, but powerful enough to pulverize ingredients into cold desserts or hot soups. The E310's less powerful motor does come at a more affordable price, and may be more suited to your needs if you don't plan to use this blender multiple times a day.

Vitamix E320

The Vitamix E320 packs a punch with its 2.2HP motor, surely powerful enough to satisfy all of your blending needs. The 2.2 motor is able to push through particularly thick, frozen blends multiple times per day, so the E320 is a better choice if you're planning on using this blender frequently.

Because the E320 and the E310 both have 10 variable speeds and pulse function with only a slight difference in motor power, their versatility is identical. Both of these blenders have no problem crushing ice for drinks, chopping fresh produce for other recipe prep, or making piping hot soups in minutes. Here's a list of popular blended recipes you can make with either of these blenders:

  • Nut butters
  • Baby food
  • Frozen desserts
  • Smoothies
  • Hot soups
  • Chopped vegetables
  • Dough
  • Flour
  • Dips and spreads
  • Sauces

That being said, the E320's 2.2HP motor handles larger, more difficult food items like frozen produce or hard cheeses with slightly more ease than the E310's 2HP motor. Additionally, the E320's longer blades have an easier time grabbing ingredients throughout the blend, so you can use the tamper less with the E320.

Ease of cleaning

Both the E320 and E310 can be cleaned by adding dish soap and water to the container, snapping on the lid, and turning the blender onto speed 1. Slowly increase the blender speed to 10 for 30-60 seconds, and then rinse and drain your container. Vitamix recommends this cleaning method to make your containers last. It's also an easy and quick way to clean your blender!

Price & Warranty Comparison: E320 Vs. E310

The E320 is priced slightly higher than the E310 due to its larger container size, longer blades, and more powerful 2.2 HP motor. All of the necessary tools such as the low profile tamper and 64oz low-profile container are included, so you won't have to worry about buying extras. It also comes with Vitamix's cookbook!

The E310 is less than the E320 as its a smaller and slightly less powerful model. Just like the E320, the E310 includes its 48oz container and tamper in the price, as well as the cookbook.

The E320 also comes with a 7-year warranty, as this blender is extremely durable, but the extra 3-year warranty that comes with other Vitamix blenders, such as the 5200, isn't available.

The E310's included warranty is shorter than the E320's at 5 years. You can buy an additional 3 years for $75, which totals to one year longer than the E320.

Return Policy

Both the Vitamix E310 and E320 offer a 30-day, in-home risk-free trial so that you can be sure you've made the right choice. Returns made in the initial 30 days are granted free of charge. After the 30-day period, you'll have to pay a percentage of what you originally paid as a "restocking fee," and the shipping cost. Vitamix doesn't accept returns after one year.

So, Which Should You Choose?

Both the Vitamix E320 and E310 have variable speed control, a pulse function, powerful motors, and are able to make soups, sauces, spreads, smoothies, frozen desserts, nut butters, and more. Both are made by one of the most reputable blender brands on the market, So, which one should you choose?

While both models are similar in versatility and performance, 3 key features set them apart: motor power, size, and the price & warranty.

The E320 is a great choice for you if you want a large, 64oz container to serve large families or groups. The 2.2 motor strong enough to handle virtually any food item with ease, and the variable speeds and pulse control allow you to control the consistencies of your blends. Essentially, this blender has all the key functions of a classic, high-performing blender. However, this model doesn't come with the extra 3-year warranty option, and may be too large for smaller families or couples.

On the other hand, the E310 is a great choice if you want a blender that's nearly as powerful as the E320, but you only need the smaller 48oz container size. Its identical control features still allow you to make just about any blended recipe, and at a more affordable price point, if you're only planning on using your blender about once a day, the E310 is a more sensible choice.
