Vitamix 5200 Overview

The Vitamix 5200 is an easy to use, versatile, and durable Vitamix blender. With variable speed control and the ability to make large batches with its 64oz container, the Vitamix 5200 is a universal kitchen tool for family cooking and entertaining.

Vitamix E320 Overview

The Vitamix E320's powerful 2.2HP motor pulverizes virtually any ingredient, allowing you to make a wide variety of blended recipes. The 10 variable speed dial along with the pulse switch provides fine-tuned control over blends, and like 5200, this blender also features a low-profile, 64oz container for easy storage and scraping.

Construction Comparison: 5200 Vs. E320

The Lids

Vitamix 5200

The Vitamix 5200 lid and removable plug has a 2oz measurement line for precision. Its vented construction allows you to bring blended recipes to piping-hot temperature in the container, or add ingredients while mixing.

Vitamix E320

The Vitamix E320's lid has all of the great features that the 5200's lid has, but its plug sits within the lid, rather than above, allowing for easy storage under cabinets.

The Blades

Vitamix 5200

The Vitamix 5200 features laser-cut, stainless-steel hammermill and cutting blades measure 3" diameter to ensure a consistent blend every time.

Vitamix E320

The Vitamix E320 features laser-cut, stainless-steel hammermill and cutting blades measuring 4" diameter, which is an extra inch than the 5200. This means that the E320 does better at grabbing ingredients and maintaining an even blend throughout all stages of the blending process than the 5200's blades. These blades are great for chopping foods with the pulse feature or blending frozen fruits for thick smoothies.

The Base

The Vitamix 5200's base is made of BPA free plastic and metal, and comes in red, black, and white. It features a clean control display with a start/stop switch and a variable speed control dial The start/stop switch allows you to start or stop your blends at any time, the dial allows you to move between 10 different speeds throughout the blending process. The 5200 has 4 rubber feet to prevent slippage. With the container attached to the base, this blender stands 20.5" tall by 8.75" x 7.25" wide.

The E320 has all of the same great features that the 5200 has, except this base also has a pulse feature control switch. The pulse switch blends at the speed set on the dial for as long as you hold the button. The E320 comes in black and red, and stands 18" tall by 8" x 11"  wide.

Performance Comparison: 5200 Vs. E320

The Motor

Vitamix 5200

The Vitamix 5200 features a 2HP motor, which is slightly less powerful than the E320's, but powerful enough to pulverize ingredients into cold desserts or hot soups. The 5200's less powerful motor does come at a more affordable price, and may be more suited to your needs if you don't plan to use this blender multiple times a day.

Vitamix E320

The Vitamix E320 packs a punch with its 2.2HP motor, surely powerful enough to satisfy all of your blending needs. The 2.2 motor is able to push through particularly thick, frozen blends multiple times per day, so the E320 is a better choice if you're planning on using this blender frequently.

Versatility

Vitamix 5200

The Vitamix 5200 can be used to make:

  • Hot soups
  • Sauces
  • Smoothies
  • Spreads
  • Doughs
  • Baby food
  • Frozen desserts

Its variable speed control allows you to fine tune consistency and texture with every recipe you make, but it lacks the E320's pulse function, which is great for prepping tough ingredients before blending or chopping vegetables.

Vitamix E320

The Vitamix E320 can blend virtually any food item with ease due to its powerful 2.2HP motor, variable speeds, and pulse control function. It make foods such as:

  • Smoothies
  • Frozen desserts
  • Hot soups
  • Nut butters
  • Dips & spreads
  • Dough
  • Baby food
  • Flour
  • Chopped produce

The pulse control allows you even further control over consistencies of each blend. The pulse function is great for grabbing shy ingredients, crushing ice for cold food platters or beverages, and chopping fruits and vegetables for other recipes. The pulse function is worth considering if you cook a lot, you love blending, and you'd like further control over your blended recipes.

Ease of cleaning

Both the E320 and 5200 can be cleaned by adding dish soap and water to the container, snapping on the lid, and turning the blender onto speed 1. Slowly increase the blender speed to 10 for 30-60 seconds, and then rinse and drain your container. Vitamix recommends this cleaning method to make your containers last. It's also an easy and quick way to clean your blender!

Price & Warranty Comparison: 5200 Vs. E320

Price

5200

At the exact same price as the E320 but with less features, the 5200's price unfortunately doesn't work in this blender's favor. While the 64oz classic container and tamper are included, you also won't receive Vitamix's blended recipes cookbook as you do with the E320.

E320

At the exact same price as the 5200 but with additional features like the 2.2HP motor, the low-profile 64oz container, and the pulse function! All of the necessary tools such as the low profile tamper and 64oz low-profile container are included, so you won't have to worry about buying extras.

Warranty

5200

The 5200 offers a 7-year warranty, as this blender is incredibly durable and made from high quality materials that are built to last. An extended warranty of an extra 3 years is available on this model for $75.

E320

The E320 also comes with a 7-year warranty, as this blender is extremely durable, but the extra 3-year warranty that comes with the 5200 isn't available.

Return Policy

Both the Vitamix 5200 and E320 offer a 30-day, in-home risk-free trial so that you can be sure you've made the right choice. Returns made in the initial 30 days are granted free of charge. After the 30-day period, you'll have to pay a percentage of what you originally paid as a "restocking fee," and the shipping cost. Vitamix doesn't accept returns after one year.

So, Which Should You Choose?

Both the Vitamix 5200 and E320 have variable speed control, powerful motors, and are able to make soups, sauces, spreads, smoothies, frozen desserts, nut butters, and more. Both come with a 7-year warranty, and both are made by one of the most reputable blender brands on the market, So, which one should you choose?

While both models are similar in versatility and performance, 3 key features set them apart: their motor power, container height, and pulse control.

The 5200 is a great choice if you're not worried about counter space, and are a beginner blender user who would like to explore how versatile a Vitamix blender is. The motor is strong enough to create hot soups, and the variable speeds allow you to control the consistencies of your blends. Essentially, this blender has all the key functions of a classic, high-performing blender. Plus, this blender has the option of adding 3 additional years onto your warranty!

On the other hand, the E320 is a great choice if you're more familiar with blending anything from soups to nut butters, and would like to fine tune your blending capabilities with the pulse function. The stronger motor may provide a smoother and quicker blend at high speeds as well. Additionally, if your kitchen lacks storage space but you enjoy making large batches, the E320's low-profile container makes storage easier. It's two inches shorter than the 5200, which may be the difference between easy storage (or lack thereof) in smaller spaces.
